6.0 SAFETY
6.1 All boats shall conform to the current International Sailing Federation Special Regulations Governing
Offshore and Oceanic Racing, including the US Sailing Prescriptions for Monohulls (or Multihulls), Category
2. as amended by this Notice of Race.
6.2 All competing boats shall carry the appropriate NOAA charts covering the race course.
6.3 The safety of a boat and its crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper, who must
insure that the boat is fully sound, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by experienced crew who are physically
fit. The Skipper of the boat must be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging, sails and all gear,
and must ensure all equipment is properly maintained and stowed, and that all aboard know where it is kept
and how it is used.
6.4 Each Skipper or Owner shall be required to declare his or her vessel’s eligibility and shall affirm that
the vessel complies with any and all equipment requirements for this race.
6.5 Each boat is required to carry a transponder used for daily position reports. The unit will be mounted
in accordance with the instructions provided and a good faith effort shall be made to maintain its operation
throughout the race. Yachts will not be responsible for the rental fee, but are required to enter into a rental
agreement with the transponder rental company. The transponder rental company requires a refundable
equipment deposit from the yacht which is estimated to be $600.
